对英特尔这个邻居又是最大的对手，桑德斯化费了整整25年，去挑战、追逐和抵抗，甚至与英特尔打赢了一场耗时8年，价值5亿美元的官司。如今，AMD不但险象环生地存活下来，而且大有赶超的势头。作为仙童后代中最年轻的一位，桑德斯在33年前为创办AMD苦苦筹钱，成为芯片公司中最后入场的选手之一，从此与英特尔较上劲。马龙认为，在所有的高科技故事中，AMD的故事是最可怕，也是最英勇的，它年复一年，代复一代，顽强地挑战这个星球上最成功、最具竞争力的公司之一。因为英特尔就象一台精密的机器一样，从来没有出过差错，从来没有给过桑德斯可乘之机。
今天，一个上帝赐予的良机摆在桑德斯面前。由于15年前，英特尔在64位战略上犯下了历史性的错误，丢弃了自己的核心资本——X86的所有优点，推一个与32位完全不兼容的“安腾”芯片。重蹈当年RISC挑战英特尔而惨败的覆辙。AMD终于能够后来居上，在市场上放手一博。
上帝给了这个机会，市场和用户也能给吗？这还是一个问号。
到今年年底，白发苍苍的桑德斯就要从AMD主席一职退休了。这很可能是他30多年的最后一战。不管最终结局如何，桑德斯不但丰富了整个高科技行业，而且让整个数字世界增加了一个新的选择：他使每一个数字化的人们都免受CPU的垄断之苦。可以毫不夸张地说，今天每一个PC用户，即使是英特尔的忠实用户，也应该对桑德斯心怀一份感激。
我们当然要为竞争喝采，为AMD鼓掌！在打破垄断的路程中，AMD的每一分胜利就是消费者的胜利。
